Top Freeware Site Nr. 1.

Softpedia.

Don’t know how they do it exactly, but for a hand-written review Site, these guys are really quick. Sometimes they got the latest version before we even upload via Robosoft, in our regular 2-4-week cycle.

Their reviews are pretty hard and precise. Still remember our 1st ever Software review, done by Catalin Chelariu of Softpedia, about Predicted Desire v0.96, our test upload.

In his first sentence, he wrote “i liked the general idea of the whole thing”. What then followed was, seriously, a long list of complaints. It took him almost half an hour to find out how to operate the whole thing, properly. The Detail Info Panel did not allow to enter any numbers, you could just double any amount and raise it up over time. Lots of small detail issues. No documentation, No details. He recommended Predicted Desire only for the True Entrepreneur. 2.5 of 5 Stars.

This review, believe me or not, gave us quite a few hard nights to sleep over. 6 months of full-time development, such a result. A few days later, we started to address every single issue that this very reviewer was complaining about. It hasn’t stopped by today.

Up to today, all our products are reviewed, manually. They take the time to send a mail back, asking you if you have any complaints about the review or do you think anything is missing. They’re not the fastest in adding a new product to the list. But they got a great overview page, even tracking their total number of downloads, and a fine public voting.

Apart from that, all above criteria are fulfilled. Great Website, great Service!

For some reason or another, we really like this site. It’s got a beautiful, decent blue look, with small highlights at the right locations, like, all those red title bars.

Their reviews are more or less automatic, which means nothing less than that we have to provide a list of product descriptions in certain lengths for the Robosoft Freeware upload agent, and they publish one of our descriptions. So yes. In 21st century, it’s automation age. The files that Robosoft sends around are simple XML files, in a standard format called PAD, Portable Application Description. And a simple XML Style Sheet may be enough to add some standard frame, a few Ads, and out comes another Freeware Page.

Anyways. We’ll just give you a short overview of all the other websites to follow.

We liked the clean, tidy look of Soft32.com, that’s why we put it in 3rd place. They publish our description, they got public voting. The pages are clean, tidy and focused.

Well, we’ll try not to step on your nerves too much. So we’ve collected a nice dia-show for you guys out there, and here are all further links to check them out, as you prefer.

One final word towards the security of your downloads.

We’re using a standard, 2016 Dell Inspiron (“Inspiration”) Notebook with Visual Studio 2017 and a Windows 10 Professional Operating System with Bitlocker Encryption on.

We’re careful in what pages we visit on that Business Notebook, and we’ve got a Virus Scanner on it, of course. We’re using an agile development approach with frequent updates. So for every dynamic application, we start from crap and publish early.

Apart from knowing you guys eager to test something new, it’s also good for SEO.

In September 2017, the 21st century Worldwide Growth of Forest simulation went straight to Top Nr. 1 position on Google, even at the time when there was just an announcement, a small slide show, and a site under construction banner on the page.

Well you know, it’s a lengthy title.

Then, we have implemented Continuous Integration.

This means that all Dynamic Applications are derived from the same source code basis, and the main difference is really the collection of calculation models they bring. Each product also has it’s own Setup Project description, caring for Icons, Headers, License and DLLs to be included.

For example, Photovoltaic System includes the Bakery Tutorial, an introductory PV System simulation that just shows simple PV self-consumption amortization, and then there are more sophisticated simulation models included that allow for a complete PV System with Network Electricity Trading, amortization and ROI over time calcualtion.

Once a new feature has been developed, we switch from Debug to Release Mode, compile once, and there we go. A few minutes later, half a dozen Dynamic Applications are ready for upload. We upload them to our free FTP Server in Switzerland, and we use a generic name for their Setups, like, PhotovoltaicSystemSetup.exe.

As most Freeware and Shareware Websites in this world just publish a Html page, but haven’t taken the time to host the software as well, it’s all the same. Lots of them have got virus scanners, of course, but in the end, they’re all showing just download button pictures that link to our free FTP server, offering a Http download of our Setup.exe.
